Content Writing That's Fun!

I've been spending a lot of time the last two weeks moving my content articles to Squidoo. I had about 47 articles on eHow when Demand Studios bought them out...they were making me a fair regular monthly income but they only offered me what I made in three months for the buyout, so I said "no thank you" and moved on. I'll never get rich writing content articles but I do like using content articles as "warm up" exercises in my writing day. And in the next few months I should have new content written that relates to poetry, creative writing and specifically the Asian forms of poetry.

I write about gardening, travel and of course creative writing and recently my lens on my new business has been taking off which has helped increase sales and online visibility. Another way I've seen writers use Squidoo is to highlight their novel, ebook or website. Here's a link if you're interested in writing a lens about your writing, editing or your novel. You can even write a lens about yourself to help promote your web presence. Have fun!

I'm writing lenses on Squidoo and would love you to join me

Putting Writing Last

"He wore white shoes and a yellow sports jacket, and Ellen could not help thinking of the yellow jackets that hovered around the pears when her mother ate lunch in the backyard during the summer."
 Nancy Willard, from Sister Water.

I am often guilty of it...putting writing last when I want to put it first. When I was in school writing always came first, after all I was spending a lot of money to get my degree. I had deadlines and goals and I made sure that I put the time in. The first five months of the year...if I was honest I would have to admit that my writing projects have not taken precedence. I don't feel good about it and I've committed to making this summer a productive writing season. How are you making this year more productive?  Please share in comments.

Where You're From

"Home is a place you grow up wanting to leave, and grow old wanting to get back to."

John Ed Pearce

Where you've lived, live today and where you were brought up have a huge impact on your writing voice and style.

I found this in an old notebook last night, I wish I could remember where I found the prompt so I could credit the source...start the writing piece with the words...I've lived...

For example I started my piece with I've lived in a Cape Cod on a corner lot with white ball fringe curtains and hedges of lilac, the same house where my mother grew up... I've lived in a haunted Victorian in Providence, Rhode Island over an abandoned flower shop, next to the Armory...

If you've lived in the same house your whole life consider places you've lived in on vacation, visiting relatives, or anytime you've left home...brain storm on the neighbors, people you met where you lived, vivid details of the neighborhood, the plants and flowers, the colors...this exercise really brings up a lot of memories...
