Paths are made by walking

"Travelers, there is no path, paths are made by walking."
Antonio Machado: Selected Poems

If I learned one thing in the last month of putting together my poetry collection, it's this quote. No matter how much creative writing instruction, mentorship, or support you receive, when it comes time to complete your novel, finish your story, or send it writing submissions, you are on your own. You have to take those first steps by yourself and that can be scary when you're unsure of yourself as a writer or poet. But it's always the ones who have the passion and perseverance for a writing life that succeed. I'm hoping to get back to a regular posting schedule in the next two weeks. I have a semester break coming up but I intend to continue to work on my poetry collection during the break, so I will be ready for my last semester and then graduation!
Today, think about paths that you have forged by continuing on with something that at first seemed too difficult. What were the steps you took that made the journey a success? What advice could you give other writers or poets to help them on their writing path? Or more literally write a one page description of a path someone is walking close to, describe in detail every nuance of the path...write so readers would want to explore this path...what would you find at the end of the path? or along the path?  Now get back to work!
Lovingly,
The Writing Nag
